I SEE A GENERATION

One of the most encouraging parts of this journey to Zambia, was serving alongside my son, Patrick.  When you see all that God has been doing in the life of your child, being transferred through him to others, it creates an indescribable joy.

My post title comes from the second verse of a beautiful worship song by Hillsong – Hosanna.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQGJdTpMUcU&feature=player_embedded
I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith, with selfless faith
I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We're on our knees, we're on our knees’

I saw my son serve, with selfless faith…..never complaining once of the filth, the dust, the peanut butter sandwiches that he made daily – even for other members of the group, including me on more than one occasion.

I saw my son love children that had not had much love in their lives.  I saw my son cry because God had broken his heart for what broke God’s and he fell in love with the 'least of these'.

I saw my son be bold as he stood to speak in front of a hundred people about the things that were affecting his heart.

I saw my son teach ten little boys about what it means to be a gentleman and how to respect young ladies.

I saw one little boy cling to my son with tears streaming down his face because he knew this ‘man’ loved him and spent time with him….played soccer with him…..was interested in what he had to say, and he didn’t want this ‘man’ to leave.

I am in tears now, as I write this blog, thinking about this young man, my son, and his service in Zambia….this young man, who is about to go to college and move away from my house for the first time in 18 years.  I am so thankful that I was able to witness the evidence of all that God has done in his life.  God’s timing is so perfect!  Yes, I will still be anxious, though I know I shouldn’t be, as I say good-bye in front of that dorm, but I am comforted knowing that God has and continues to work everything together for good in Patrick!

LOVE!

Patrick's boys as they teach a man from their community who Jesus is and what He did for us

  1. It was a blessing to share in this with you watching our children's hearts and lives changed at the same time. I believe Zambia is one of the Lord's dwelling places and their generation can be part of lasting change! I'm so proud of Pat too and look forward to many summers together in Zambia through the years! Love you my friend. :)
